Brenda Vanderploeg of Saugeen Shores, a volunteer at Gray Bruce Hospice Chapman Home, has been awarded the distinguished June Callwood Circle of Excellent Volunteers Award on the Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO) convention in Markham.

The June Callwood Award was established in 1994 to acknowledge and thank excellent hospice volunteers all through Ontario, supplied by the Hospice Affiliation of Ontario (HPCO), which joined in 2011 with the Ontario Palliative Care Affiliation to grow to be Hospice Palliative Care Ontario, 

The award was named in honour of the late June Callwood, the Award Patron, a long-time hospice advocate, neighborhood activist, creator, and recipient of the Order of Canada. Callwood was a recipient of this award in 1995. 

Volunteers are acknowledged as particular individuals – “a view strongly held by Callwood and expressed by her on many occasions, during interviews on TV and radio, through her warm message of support at the Hospice Association of Ontario’s annual conferences and through her writing”.

Every hospice in Ontario that’s an Organizational Member of HPCO, is invited to appoint one volunteer from inside their group who exemplifies the spirit of hospice volunteerism with every nominee inducted into the June Callwood Circle of Excellent Volunteers. 

Inductees demonstrated selfless service, generosity of spirit, compassion and a dedication to excellence as a volunteer to hospice companies. 

An extended-time volunteer, Vanderploeg meets all the necessities in terms of hospice care with exceptional service and unwavering dedication, tireless efforts and compassionate spirit to exemplify the values of the HPCO June Callwood Circle of Excellent Volunteers. 

As well as, she has been a volunteer on the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre for a few years, amongst others.
