Everyone is welcome to come and see some NHL legends hit the ice for a charity hockey tournament in Port Elgin.

The Grey Bruce Celebrity Hockey Classic Tournament on Friday promises a day filled with fun and exciting hockey while supporting Easter Seals.

This event will take place on March 7th at the Plex in Port Elgin from 8 a. m. to 4 p. m.

Easter Seals advocates for children with physical disabilities, runs summer camps for them, raises funds for their accessibility and mobility equipment, and engages in government discussions on issues impacting those with physical disabilities.

Charlene Myke, Development Manager for Central Ontario Easter Seals, says, “Thursday night over at the CAW (Unifor) we have a VIP draft night. That has sponsors who have purchased tables, we have our eight teams in attendance, we have a nice big dinner and we have a hot stove hosted by Ken Reid from Sportsnet.”

She explains, “We have all of our former NHL greats up on stage and they tell stories they sit with the people during dinner, they sit with the teams and after all that is finished we have a draft just like you would in the NHL.”

Myke mentions that on Friday, the NHL players will be playing alongside their teams throughout the day in the tournament. Everyone is invited to come watch.

This year, Eric Lindros will be attending for the first time. Other players include Todd Gill, Andre Roy, Troy Crowder, Mike Krushelnyski, Dennis Maruk, Al Iafrate, and Peter Holland.

****Organizers confirm that Thursday night’s dinner and hot stove are still happening despite challenging weather conditions. As of noon Thursday, NHL players are en route and plan to attend the event at the Unifor Centre located in Port Elgin’s south end.
