Durham Regional Police report that there are “several ongoing investigations” into threats directed at an elementary school in Pickering on Tuesday.
William Dunbar Public School went into a ‘Hold and Secure’ status for several hours on Tuesday after receiving threats over the phone.
The police arrived just before noon, and the school was cleared before the order was lifted around 2:20 p. m.
Sgt. Janalyn Dowdle stated that police do not believe there is a threat to public safety but chose to boost their presence at the school because they “recognize the impact” these situations have on students, staff, families, and the wider community.
“As a precaution we will continue to maintain our increased presence in the area and closely monitor activities in and around the school.”
