Durham Regional Police report that there are “several ongoing investigations” into threats made to an elementary school in Pickering on Tuesday.

William Dunbar Public School was put on a ‘Hold and Secure’ for several hours after receiving threats through telephone calls.

Durham Police arrived just before noon, and the school was cleared before the order was lifted at around 2:20 p. m.

Sgt. Janalyn Dowdle mentioned that police don’t think there’s a threat to public safety but chose to boost their presence at the school because they “recognize the impact” these situations have on students, staff, families, and the community as a whole.

“As a precaution we will continue to maintain our increased presence in the area and closely monitor activities in and around the school.”

Sgt. Janalyn Dowdle
