A man has died and a woman is critically injured following a head-on crash in Pickering on Wednesday morning.
Durham Police arrived at the scene of the accident at Kingston Road and Merritton Road shortly after 7 a. m. Wednesday. They reported that a Toyota sedan was heading west on Kingston Road when it crossed into the opposite lanes, colliding head-on with an eastbound Subaru SUV.
The 57-year-old driver of the Toyota was rushed to a trauma center in Toronto where he later passed away from his injuries.
A 67-year-old woman riding in the Subaru was also taken to the trauma center with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. The 68-year-old male driver of the Subaru suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The road was shut down for several hours as members of the DRPS Collision Investigation team gathered evidence.
