A man has died and a woman is critically injured following a head-on crash in Pickering on Wednesday morning.

Durham Police arrived at the scene of the accident at Kingston Road and Merritton Road shortly after 7 a. m. Wednesday. They reported that a Toyota sedan was heading west on Kingston Road when it crossed into the opposite lanes, colliding head-on with an eastbound Subaru SUV.

The 57-year-old driver of the Toyota was rushed to a trauma center in Toronto where he later passed away from his injuries.

A 67-year-old woman riding in the Subaru was also taken to the trauma center with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. The 68-year-old male driver of the Subaru suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The road was shut down for several hours as members of the DRPS Collision Investigation team gathered evidence.

If anyone has cell phone, dash cam, or surveillance footage, or any information regarding this incident, they are encouraged to reach out to D/Cst. Hoevenaars of the Collision Investigation Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5255.
