A 40-year-old man hailing from Peterborough, Ont., is facing multiple charges following an incident early Friday morning in Prince Edward Island, according to police reports.
In a news release on Friday, P. E. I. RCMP stated that officers from Summerside Police Service were alerted by a security guard at Slemon Park, located just west of Summerside, at about 1 a. m.
RCMP informed that the security guard had approached a man who was sitting in a truck parked at the roadside when the driver reportedly tried to run over the guard with his vehicle without any provocation.
Island EMS and Summerside police responded initially, and RCMP were also sent to the scene since Slemon Park is under their jurisdiction.
During the arrest attempt, the suspect allegedly attacked three officers from Summerside.
Authorities reported that the security guard sustained serious injuries at the scene before being transported to Prince County Hospital in Summerside. The individual is now in stable condition and has been cooperating with law enforcement during their investigation.
The suspect faces six charges:
Attempted murder. Dangerous operation of a vehicle. Assault with a weapon. Three counts of assaulting a police officer.
The police indicated that this man has no known ties or family members in P. E. I., and it’s unclear why he was present in the province.
He remains in custody until his court appearance, although no date has been established yet.
