A man from Perth is facing several charges after trying to escape from the police.
This incident occurred on October 31 at around 10:30 a. m. An officer with the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Port Elmsley Road when he noticed a vehicle that seemed suspicious.
According to a press release from the police, the officer tried to pull over the vehicle, but it sped away quickly. The responding officer described the pick-up truck as being driven “erratically.”
Due to safety concerns, the officer chose not to chase after the vehicle but informed other officers in the vicinity.
The truck was seen multiple times before authorities could deploy a spike belt to stop it safely. Eventually, police found the abandoned truck shortly thereafter.
The OPP Canine Unit was called in for assistance in searching for the driver. The individual was later discovered hiding in a field.
Ridge Michael, a 35-year-old man from Perth, has been charged with:
Dangerous operation of a vehicle; Flight from a peace officer; Two counts of driving while under suspension; Driving with liquor readily available; Driving a vehicle failing to display two licence plates; Using a plate not authorized for a vehicle; and Two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking.
