One person has died following a crash between a motorcycle and a farm tractor just north of Listowel.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the accident on Perth Line 88, located between Road 167 and Road 171, at around 7 p. m. on Thursday.

The motorcyclist, aged 29, was declared dead at the scene. The identity of the individual has not yet been disclosed. The tractor driver did not sustain any injuries.

This incident led to a closure of that part of Perth Line 88 for more than seven hours, with it reopening shortly after 2 a. m. on Friday.

Members of the West Region OPP traffic management and enforcement team are working alongside Perth OPP officers as they continue their investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage is encouraged to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

The deadly crash occurred just hours before one of Ontario’s biggest motorcycle events – the Friday the 13 gathering in Port Dover. Thousands of bikers from all over North America flock to this lakeside town in Norfolk County.

OPP have reminded both motorcyclists and drivers to share the road responsibly and prioritize safety.

In a video shared on social media, Sergeant Ed Sanchuk highlighted some tips for drivers to prevent accidents with others on the road.

“Make sure you are double checking your blind spots, signalling your turns, leaving enough time, room and distance between you and other vehicles and motorcycles,” Sanchuk said. “For motorcyclists, make sure you are visible to the motoring public. Please, no lane splitting or aggressive driving because I can assure you right now that if you’re involved in a crash, a lot of time motorcycle operators suffer life-altering or life-ending injuries.”

With an expected increase in motorcycles over the weekend, OPP stated they will enhance their presence to focus on traffic safety.
