A 2-year-old boy who went missing in Perth County has been safely reunited with his family.
The child was reported missing from the Trowbridge area just before 6 p. m. on Monday. This prompted a large search effort involving officers from Perth, Huron, and Wellington counties, along with the OPP West Region emergency response team and canine unit, the North Perth Fire Department, Perth County Emergency Medical Services, and Huron Area Search and Rescue (HASAR). A drone and an OPP helicopter were also used to help find the boy.
At the same time, local residents were asked to check their properties, including outbuildings and fields.
The boy was discovered in a nearby cornfield shortly after 1 a. m. on Tuesday. After being checked by paramedics, he was returned to his family, according to police.
The authorities expressed their gratitude to everyone who helped in the search efforts and supported the family during this time.
“This successful outcome is a testament to the collective efforts of all involved and reinforces the importance of the resources and partnerships available to the OPP such as HASAR when responding to complex and major incidents,” Incident Commander Staff Sergeant David Sinko said in a statement.
