A 2-year-old boy who went missing for a short time in Perth County has been safely reunited with his family.
The little boy was last seen in the Trowbridge area just before 6 p. m. on Monday. This prompted a large search operation involving officers from the Perth, Huron, and Wellington county OPP, along with the OPP West Region emergency response team and canine unit, the North Perth Fire Department, Perth County Emergency Medical Services, and Huron Area Search and Rescue (HASAR). A drone and an OPP helicopter were also deployed to assist in finding him.
Meanwhile, local residents were asked to check their properties, including outbuildings and fields.
The child was discovered in a nearby cornfield shortly after 1 a. m. on Tuesday. After being assessed by paramedics, he was returned to his family safe and sound, according to police reports.
Authorities expressed their gratitude to everyone who helped with the search efforts and supported the family during this time.
“This successful outcome is a testament to the collective efforts of all involved and reinforces the importance of the resources and partnerships available to the OPP such as HASAR when responding to complex and major incidents,” Incident Commander Staff Sergeant David Sinko said in a statement.
