A 44-year-old man from Ottawa has lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while a tow truck was attempting to pull his minivan out of the snow.
The incident took place shortly before 1 a. m. on Saturday along Highway 7, situated between Highway 511 and Glen Tay Road, west of Perth, Ontario.
The minivan had become stuck in a snowy ditch on Friday night, prompting a tow truck to assist in getting it back on the road, according to a news release from the Ontario Provincial Police.
During this process, the man was standing next to his minivan when he was hit by an eastbound car, as reported by OPP.
He was transported to an Ottawa hospital but was later pronounced dead there.
The vehicle also collided with the tow truck; however, its driver did not sustain any injuries, police stated. There were no injuries reported for anyone inside the car either.
Highway 7 reopened around mid-Saturday morning.
