Provincial police have taken into custody a resident from London, Ont., who is accused of stealing vehicles and property across southwestern Ontario, including areas like Perth County, Chatham-Kent, and Grey Bruce.
On Monday, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) shared that they arrested the 44-year-old earlier this month after conducting a search at a home in northeast London. While details about what was found on the property haven’t been disclosed, they noted that the first report of stolen items came in mid-July.
On July 20, two watercraft were reported stolen from a commercial site in Georgian Bluffs. Police mentioned that an SUV and pickup truck were seen leaving with a green 2022 Seadoo GTI and a Zodiac centre console inflatable boat.
A few days later, on July 24, a 20-foot Smoker Craft Phantom boat equipped with a Suzuki motor was taken along with its steel trailer in Meaford within Grey County.
Then on August 1, authorities were informed about a trailer containing food and catering supplies being stolen from a location on Highway 10 in Grey Highlands.
Investigators linked the same individual to all three incidents. They also indicated that this person was associated with thefts occurring in Chatham-Kent and Perth County but did not share further details.
Two months later, following a search warrant executed at a residence in London, police arrested the suspect and charged him with 14 offenses:
Break and enter (Perth County). Theft of motor vehicle (Perth County). Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (Perth County). Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (Chatham-Kent). Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (Chatham-Kent). Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (Chatham-Kent). Theft of motor vehicle (Grey Bruce). Theft of motor vehicle (Grey Bruce). Theft of motor vehicle (Grey Bruce). Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (Grey Bruce). Theft over $5000 (Perth County). Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (Grey Bruce). Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (London Police Service). Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (London Police Service).
Since his arrest, he has been held for a bail hearing scheduled for October 6 in Owen Sound.
The OPP is urging anyone who might have information regarding these incidents or similar cases to reach out to them.
