As we enter the peak of respiratory illness and flu season, Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) is urging everyone to take steps to avoid getting sick.

According to HPPH, getting vaccinated is the most effective way to protect yourself, especially from serious illnesses caused by influenza, COVID-19, and RSV.

The HPPH highlights that data indicates significant activity across the province regarding the spread of respiratory illnesses, including in Huron and Perth regions.

Public Health Ontario offers current and detailed information on influenza, COVID-19, and RSV through the Ontario Respiratory Virus Tool (https://www. publichealthontario. ca/en/Data-and-Analysis/Infectious-Disease/Respiratory-Virus-Tool).

You can check out data on respiratory viruses, such as case numbers and hospitalizations for both the entire province and specifically for Huron-Perth.

In addition, HPPH shares information on active outbreaks in Huron Perth via its Outbreak Summary 2025-26 webpage (www. hpph. ca/outbreak).

Officials at HPPH want to emphasize that it’s not too late to get vaccinated for your protection.

Residents of Ontario aged six months and older are eligible for yearly influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations. Reach out to your healthcare provider or local pharmacy to find out about getting these shots.

Select high-risk groups can also receive RSV immunization, including adults aged 75 years and older. Those eligible should consult their primary care provider about obtaining this vaccine.

Infants and children at high risk can access RSV monoclonal antibody treatment through hospital maternal child units or their primary care providers.

HPPH continues to provide COVID-19 and influenza vaccines for children four years old and younger. For more details or to schedule an appointment, contact the immunization team at 1-888-221-2133 ext. 3558.

If you’d like more information on preventing the spread of respiratory illnesses or details about vaccinations, visit www. hpph. ca/reduceillness.
