A collision involving four vehicles early Friday resulted in the deaths of two individuals and led to the closure of Highway 7 between Perth and Maberly, as reported by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The highway was reopened on Friday afternoon.

According to a news release from OPP, emergency services arrived at the scene of the crash near Maberly shortly after 3 a. m.

Police informed CBC that a 59-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man from Ottawa, who were in an SUV, lost their lives at the scene.

In addition, four other people sustained injuries, with two suffering critical injuries that required hospitalization. The remaining individuals had minor injuries.

The incident involved two transport trucks and a pickup truck, OPP stated. Thankfully, none of those injured were children.

While the investigation is still underway, police mentioned that the vehicles were traveling in opposite directions.

“It appears that the westbound [pickup] truck may have initially had a collision with the eastbound transport truck,” OPP Const. Corey Noonan told CBC.

Collision reconstructionists were present at the scene attempting to determine what caused the accident, he said.
