A 10-year-old boy has lost his life after a head-on crash east of Perth, Ont., involving an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) cruiser.

The incident took place on Highway 7 between Drummond School Road and Drummond Concession 7 on December 13, just before 4:30 p. m.

According to police, an OPP officer was patrolling in a marked cruiser when it was hit by a pick-up truck coming from the opposite direction.

There were three individuals inside the pick-up. The child was airlifted to a regional trauma center by Air Ornge but sadly passed away the next day. The other two occupants remain hospitalized with serious injuries.

The OPP officer involved is recovering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Lanark County OPP is still investigating the accident.

Authorities are asking for public help; anyone with information or dashcam footage related to the event is encouraged to reach out.
