Athletes taking part in the Ironman Triathlon in Ottawa might face a rainy race day as Environment Canada issued yellow-level rainfall warnings for eastern Ontario and western Quebec on Sunday morning.

The weather agency noted that between 50 and 100 millimeters of rain could fall on Sunday, with the heaviest rain anticipated in the evening.

This rainfall could accumulate on roads and in low-lying areas, leading to property damage, according to Environment Canada.

As of 9:30 a. m. on Sunday, the warning included all of eastern Ontario, covering Ottawa, Pembroke, Cornwall, Kingston, and Belleville.

It also extended to western Quebec, including Gatineau, Val-des-Monts, La Pêche and surrounding communities to the north.

The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority, which oversees the watershed between Greater Napanee and Brockville, released a water safety statement on Sunday advising caution along waterways but indicated that widespread flooding isn’t expected in the region.

The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority issued a similar alert, stating that water levels and flows throughout the valley remain around seasonal averages.
