Ontario Premier Doug Ford addressed the province’s mayors and other municipal leaders at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference in Ottawa on Monday morning.

Ford announced that applications are now open for the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund, which provides funding for sports and recreation improvements, repairs, or new constructions.

He highlighted his economic achievements, discussed last week’s data center strategy, and referenced Sunday’s infrastructure funding announcement.

This week, local leaders are expected to urge the province for more reliable funding and assistance with expensive issues like homelessness and aging infrastructure.

On Sunday, both provincial and federal governments revealed $1 billion to assist Ontario municipalities that don’t charge development fees in building and renewing essential infrastructure.

The annual AMO conference gathers representatives from cities, towns, and rural areas to engage in policy discussions and meet directly with provincial ministers.

Previous conferences have featured updates regarding the move away from supervised injection sites as well as discussions about elected school board trustees’ future.
