The province’s police oversight agency is looking into an incident where an Ottawa officer shot a man accused of taking a woman hostage at knifepoint. Police reported receiving a 911 call at 7 a. m. on Thursday regarding a 42-year-old man who was allegedly holding a woman captive inside a home in Kanata. The Special Investigations Unit mentioned that officers attempted to negotiate with the man until 9 p. m., when they broke into the house to rescue the woman and shot the suspect. Authorities stated that he has been arrested and is currently hospitalized in stable condition. The SIU indicated that they have assigned four investigators and two forensic experts to this case.
