The Ottawa Police Service proudly organized another fantastic Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics Ontario, bringing together members, community partners, and supporters in a wonderful display of bravery and community spirit.
<p Thanks to the kindness of participants, donors, and sponsors, this year's event raised over $63,000 for Special Olympics Ontario and its athletes and families throughout the province. These funds will offer year-round sports training and competition chances, helping athletes gain confidence, develop skills, and enjoy the many advantages of sports.
This year’s plunge took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa, marking an exciting new partnership that helped unite the community in a warm and lively environment.
The afternoon kicked off with speeches from Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and Chief Eric Stubbs, who set an example by being the first to take the plunge alongside Christine Crump, President of Ottawa’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The Glee Ceptional Choir got everyone pumped up, while Special Olympics athlete Kate Brubacher recited the Athlete’s Oath – a powerful reminder of the determination behind this movement.
Teams and individual plungers stepped forward one by one, cheered on by colleagues, friends, family members, and fellow athletes. Although each plunge lasted just seconds, their commitment will have a lasting impact throughout the year.
The ongoing relationship between the Ottawa Police Service and Special Olympics Ontario highlights how collaboration, leadership, and inclusion can strengthen our community. With everyone’s dedication this year’s Polar Plunge was yet again a great success.
