OTTAWA – The CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre in Ottawa recently celebrated a major milestone with the installation of its final structural beam.
When it’s up and running, this new 200,000-square-foot facility will provide improved care for over 13,700 children and youth with special needs and their families across eastern Ontario, according to a statement from the province.
The centre will be linked to the CHEO hospital via a tunnel and is projected to start operations in 2028.
Some of its features will include:
Rehabilitation services and support therapies available onsite, such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language therapy, and recreation therapy. Coordinated care for children and youth who have multiple or complex special needs. Support through the Extensive Needs Service that connects families with a multidisciplinary team of professionals including doctors, social workers, and behavioral consultants for personalized assistance.
Construction officially began in April 2025.
This multi-year project is being funded by both the Ontario government and CHEO, with Ellis Don Infrastructure OCH Inc. handling the construction.
