Look for ways to save on entry fees at well-known museums and attractions. Explore no-cost activities in Toronto, plus more free (and almost free) options in Ottawa and across Ontario.

Festivals and events in Toronto

From Luminato to Nuit Blanche, Toronto is home to many cultural, food, and art festivals, several of which you can attend without spending a dime.

Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), Toronto

This is one of the leading art museums in North America. The AGO offers First Wednesday Night Free on the first Wednesday evening of each month from 6:00 to 9:00 p. m.

If you visit often, the AGO provides two types of annual passes: a free pass for those aged 24 years or younger and a $40 annual pass for those who are 25 years old or more. Both passes give unlimited access to the gallery for a full year.

Harbourfront Centre, Toronto

A lively arts and culture spot on Toronto’s waterfront, Harbourfront Centre has free entry for exhibitions, festivals, and public events all year long. You can enjoy everything from art displays to live music, dance shows, and family-friendly activities.

Within the centre, The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery focuses solely on contemporary visual art. It features various exhibitions throughout the year with no admission fee.

Toronto parks and islands

Spend some time discovering the Toronto Islands-only a 15-minute ferry ride from downtown. There’s a small fee for the ferry ride but exploring island trails and beaches is completely free.

You can enjoy themed gardens, walking paths, a zoo, and picnic spots at High Park without any charge. Visit Riverdale Park East for great skyline views at sunset or see horses, pigs, and chickens at Riverdale Farm located in Riverdale Park West.

Ottawa’s national museums

Select galleries and museums in Ottawa open their doors free of charge on Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00 p. m., including the National Gallery of Canada.

The Ottawa Museums Passes also help you save on entry fees at ten different museums and galleries around town like the Bytown Museum, Royal Canadian Mint, and Diefenbunker: Canada’s Cold War Museum. Passes are available for either one-day or three-day use.

Guided tours at Parliament Hill, Ottawa

A trip to Ottawa isn’t complete without checking out Parliament Hill. Free guided tours run daily in both English and French. Tours include visits to the Senate of Canada Building, House of Commons at West Block, East Block as well as Parliament: The Immersive Experience.

Trails at Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG), Hamilton

This is Canada’s largest botanical garden featuring over 850 hectares filled with gardens, trails, and nature reserves between Hamilton and Burlington.

You’ll need to pay admission fees for the main gardens; however there are several nature trails that showcase beautiful scenery which remain open year-round free of charge.

Gardens at Dundurn National Historic Site, Hamilton

The guided tours around historic Dundurn Castle grounds do require paid admission; however you’re welcome to explore surrounding grounds along with gardens without any cost attached. Stroll through lovely parkland , check out Kitchen Garden , and enjoy stunning views over Hamilton Harbour from atop castle’s elevated area.

Known as “City Of Waterfalls”, there are over100 waterfalls scattered throughout scenic routes wooded ravines within Hamilton area. Popular locations such as Webster’s Falls Tiffany Falls offer easy access making them ideal spots perfect relaxing hiking adventures photography forest bathing.Museums In Niagara Falls

For unique insight into history surrounding Niagara falls visit Battle Ground Hotel Museum Willoughby Historical Museum. Niagara region played major role during War Of1812 showcasing various artifacts exhibits highlighting this important conflict. Admission both these venues based donation only.

Niagara Botanical Gardens

Situated alongside beautiful niagara parkway, Nigara botanical gardens span40 hectares boast award winning landscapes vibrant seasonal blooms. Entry garden remains completely free ; guided tours offered separate fee.
