Explore sports history in Cornwall
The second session of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Historical Society’s new Speaker Series will happen on Tuesday, January 20, at Schnitzel’s Restaurant in Cornwall. Author Thom Racine will share stories about Cornwall’s sports history-including Victorian lacrosse matches at the Athletic Grounds, the tragic on-ice incident involving Owen Mc Court and its aftermath, as well as women who dominated hockey during World War I. Tickets are limited and cost $15.
Try fat biking in Gatineau
Le Harfang is hosting an all-day event called Fat-Fest on Saturday, January 24. Enjoy guided fat-bike tours suitable for various skill levels along with outdoor and indoor music performances, beer tasting from a microbrewery, delicious food from Le Rituel, and more.

This week features several winter carnivals near Ottawa including Carnaval St-Jean Bosco in Gatineau (January 19 to 25), Optimist Club Winter Carnival at Carlsbad Springs (January 23 to 25), Dalkeith Winter Carnival (January 24 and 25), plus Trend Arlington Community Association’s Winter Carnival (January 25). If you’re willing to venture further out you could also check out Laval en blanc happening from January 23 to 25.

Join board game night in Vanier
The Vanier Sugar Shack is hosting a board game night on Tuesday, January 20 from 6pm to 10pm. Everyone is welcome! Experts from Studio Staja will be available to teach new games. Snacks and bar service will be provided. Bring your own game for free admission; otherwise it’s $3 per person.
Visit markets at Navan or Lansdowne Park
On January 24 and 25th Robert Plante Greenhouses located inside their tropical greenhouses hosts a Winter Market with over 150 local vendors offering handmade goods as well as artisanal products.
Meanwhile at Lansdowne Park’s Aberdeen Pavilion-613flea returns with another lively indoor market set for Saturday January 24 featuring around 150 vendors presenting handmade items alongside antiques vintage clothing foods plus unique products.
Well-behaved pets are welcome at both locations!

Stories and Sweets: Celebrating Black History takes place Sunday afternoon January 25th at Shenkman Arts Centre-Orléans where attendees can experience live music spoken word performances vendor market discussions led by Black creatives professionals suitable for all ages!
