A late-night explosion at a house in Oshawa is being looked into after the property was destroyed by fire over the weekend.
According to Durham police, officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Gibbons Street and Annapolis Avenue just after 10 p. m. on Feb. 21, following several reports of a loud blast and a home going up in flames.
When emergency responders arrived, they discovered the house completely engulfed in flames, with debris scattered all around as firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.
Police helped manage traffic while Oshawa Fire Services fought the blaze. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
The reason for the explosion has not been established yet, and the investigation is now being handled by the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch of Durham Regional Police Service.
Detectives are reaching out to anyone who was in the area during that time – or who might have recorded the event on their cell phone, dash cam, or home surveillance system – to come forward.
