Oshawa Generals overage forward Luke Posthumus shared his commitment to the NCAA’s St. Lawrence University earlier in December. Now, another General has secured a scholarship to continue his hockey journey while pursuing an education after finishing his OHL career.
Defenseman Lucas Moore has decided to join Niagara University.
Moore, 20, is a seasoned player with close to 300 total regular season and playoff games played. He’s just 10 games shy of hitting that milestone and will achieve it as part of the Oshawa Generals, following his entire career with the Bulldogs organization.
This strong-skating defenseman boasts an OHL championship title. Although he wasn’t a regular in the Hamilton Bulldogs’ playoff roster during their 2022 run, he did participate in one game and played in 34 regular season matches, thus earning a spot on the J. Ross Robertson Cup trophy.
Moore was set for another shot at a championship this season in Brantford. Unfortunately, when the Bulldogs picked up Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford, they had to let go of their longtime defenseman. Now he gets to play as a top-four defenseman in Oshawa, though I’m sure he’d have preferred being part of the depth chart on the Bulldogs’ championship squad.
A bright side of this trade for Moore is that he’s now closer to home. The Peterborough native used to be hours away from home and faced the dreaded 401 traffic just to visit family. Now he’s only about an hour away thanks to Highway 115 connecting both cities.
Moore will be joining former OHL players Jacob Maillet and Declan Mc Donnell at Niagara.
