The City of Oshawa has approved By-law 82-2025, making several changes to Zoning By-law 60-94.

The by-law, which received council approval on June 26, introduces a set of city-led updates intended to support future development and revise local planning regulations.

Some important updates include:

Requiring an 800-metre distance between payday loan stores, tattoo shops, pawn shops, vape product retailers, social service organizations, and adult-oriented businesses. Updating regulations and specific site maps for properties located between 419 and 507 King Street West to encourage high-rise mixed-use developments along the upcoming Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit route.

Exempting social service establishments that are provincially approved or operated from the new distance requirement. Adding the Urban Growth Centre (UGC) Zone to areas where public authorities and certain agencies can develop or utilize land if specific design standards are fulfilled. Related Story
