Ontario's newest pro lacrosse team hoping to make it two wins in a row

The first season in Oshawa has been tough for the National Lacrosse League’s Fire Wolves, with not many wins so far. However, they’re looking to secure their second victory in a row as they face the Philadelphia Wings on Friday night during the home leg of a back-to-back match.

Both teams are sitting at the bottom of the 14-team league with records of 3-10 after Oshawa narrowly defeated the Wings 13-12 in Philadelphia on Sunday.

A win for Oshawa (and a clean sweep over Philadelphia this season) would allow the Fire Wolves to jump ahead of Calgary (who won’t play until Saturday) and move into 12th place.

This season, Oshawa has found themselves in numerous one-goal games that didn’t go their way, yet they still have a slim chance – mathematically speaking – at making it to the playoffs. This would require winning all five of their remaining games along with some assistance from other teams.

Despite the team’s struggles, Alex Simmons ranks fourth in league scoring with 30 goals and 76 points, while goalie Doug Jamieson stands second in saves this season with a total of 524.

Off the field, the team has seen great success; nearly every game at the Tribute Communities Centre has been sold out, and players are actively promoting both the sport and their brand within the community.

The Fire Wolves are also celebrating mascot Alphie’s birthday tonight. A win would be an amazing gift for any wolf!

The game will take place at Tribute Centre (7 p. m. start) and can be watched from home on TSN+, ESPN+, and NLL+.
