The Government of Ontario has kicked off significant construction work to enhance the Durham College Oshawa GO Station, which is a key step in the province’s efforts to provide two-way, all-day GO train service along the Lakeshore East line.

This expansion involves adding two new tracks aimed at improving the speed and frequency of GO services for thousands of commuters throughout Durham Region.

“Expanding Durham College Oshawa GO Station will unlock more frequent service on the Lakeshore East line, connecting thousands of people to jobs and opportunities as we build a stronger, more resilient and self-reliant economy,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation.

Construction teams have begun working on two additional tracks along with other necessary infrastructure to support future electrification. The project also features a new north platform complete with a canopy and snow-melt system, an extended south platform, new pedestrian bridges, and a bus loop. These upgrades will increase station capacity and improve accessibility to meet future demand, including plans for the Bowmanville Extension project.

ONxpress Civils Contractor General Partnership (ONxpress), a collaboration between Aecon and FCC Canada, is overseeing the construction work. This includes enhancements at Durham College Oshawa GO Station as well as other vital civil projects and track improvements along the Lakeshore East line.

Earlier this year, construction commenced on the Bowmanville GO Extension, which aims to extend the Lakeshore East line nearly 19 kilometers further into Durham Region and accommodate around 17,000 daily trips alongside 4.9 million annual boardings by 2041.

The Bowmanville Extension ranks No. 96 on Re New Canada’s 2026 Top100 Projects report.

“Durham Region is growing, and we’re working with the Government of Ontario to deliver the transit infrastructure needed to keep people moving. Improvements at Durham College Oshawa GO Station will modernize the station with a new bus loop, two new pedestrian bridges, a new north platform and canopy, and the reconstruction of the existing south platform. These enhancements will expand station capacity and improve accessibility, helping meet the demand of future service, including the Bowmanville Extension project,” said Michael Lindsay, Metrolinx president and CEO.

Ontario has invested over $15.3 billion through the GO Expansion program to create new transit infrastructure that increases capacity while providing faster and more reliable service across the GO network.
