A bear has been seen roaming around Oshawa.

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has gotten reports of bear sightings in the Harmony Creek Trail region.

They are keeping an eye on the bear.

According to MNR, it’s pretty normal to see bears this time of year in Durham.

They mention that there’s a low-density population of black bears in the northern parts of York and Durham Regions.

They also say that in spring and early summer, bears, especially younger ones, might travel long distances as they look for food or new places to live.

As bears move through their environment, they often follow natural routes like river valleys, which can bring them into more populated areas (e. g., Uxbridge, Oshawa, Clarington).

MNR provides these recommendations

If a bear is an immediate danger to public safety by showing aggressive behavior, call 911. Check out Bear Wise: tips and tools | ontario. ca to find out how to avoid attracting bears and what steps to take if you come across one.

To prevent issues with bears, residents should:

Store garbage securely in a closed storage area and only place it outside on collection day Clean any food remnants and grease from outdoor grills after each use Take down bird feeders until winter arrives Keep pet food inside Pick ripe fruits from trees and clean up fallen fruit.
