A 16-year-old boy from Brampton has been charged with second-degree murder following a confrontation in Oshawa on Saturday, according to Durham Region police.
Police responded to reports of an armed individual near Simcoe Street N. and Winchester Road E. at around 8:10 p. m., as mentioned in a post on X, previously known as Twitter.
They found one man suffering “traumatic injuries,” who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, two groups of men were involved in a physical fight outside a Tim Hortons in the area. The suspect, along with several others, fled the scene on foot.
The death of the 23-year-old marks the third homicide in Durham Region this year.
Air and K9 units helped search for the suspects but did not find anyone, police stated.
In a news release on Monday, authorities said that the suspect turned himself in.
Investigators are asking anyone who was around between 7:30 p. m. and 9 p. m. with information or footage to reach out to police or Crime Stoppers.
