With heavy hearts, the family shares the sudden and unexpected loss of Vernon Raymond Seymour on December 23, 2025, in Comox, British Columbia.

Vern was born on August 3, 1956, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He dedicated nearly 40 years to his career as a power engineer-a job he took great pride in until he retired from Resolute Forest Products 13 years ago.

Vern had an enduring passion for learning and a curious spirit about the world. When he wasn’t working, you could find him tinkering with small engines, snowblowers, or lawnmowers. He had a talent for fixing things and was always eager to help others with repairs. His phone or computer was almost always within reach as he searched for information or explored topics that fascinated him. Vern had an impressive memory for names and dates and genuinely enjoyed staying updated on current events.

As an active community member, Vern engaged deeply in local politics. He often attended council meetings and kept a close eye on municipal matters while holding city officials accountable. He strongly believed in civic duty and the value of community participation, never hesitating to voice his opinions on important issues.

Vern loved catching up over coffee with his retired Bowater buddies-he valued the friendships and discussions they shared. Summers were often spent camping at parks around Thunder Bay with his wife Mary. Most importantly, he cherished time spent with his granddaughters in Comox; their laughter at his jokes brought him so much happiness.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Harris Seymour and Sarah Jean Seymour.

Vern will be missed dearly by his loving wife Mary; daughter Melissa; son Patrick (Shannon); granddaughters Ivy and Autumn; brother Bob (Lorraine); sister Lynn; his loyal dog Willow who accompanied him everywhere; along with many extended family members and friends.

His family will feel the loss profoundly but maybe not city council! Lol.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation in Vern’s honor.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday March 28, 2026 at 1pm at Current River Community Centre (450 Dewe Ave, Thunder Bay, ON).
