We are heartbroken to share that Brenda passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026. She was the wife of the late Barry and daughter to the late Joe and Joyce Richards (Mac Leod). Brenda was also a bonus daughter to the late Elsie Richards (Johnson). She leaves behind her beloved siblings Bob Richards (Mary) and Randy Richards (Lidia). As an aunt, she is fondly remembered by Bobbi Richards-Poole (Darran), Amanda Richards (Brad), and Stacy Cox (Caleb). Her great-nieces and nephews include Gavin Poole, Dylan Poole, Ethan Shoust, and Olivia Cox. Brenda was a daughter-in-law to the late Jim and Lois Thomas. She will be missed deeply by her cousins and friends as well as the Thomas Family.

Born on September 7, 1955 in Little Current, Ontario, Brenda moved with her family to Sault Ste. Marie in 1958 from Manitoulin Island. Growing up on Arizona Ave., she had a short walk to East View Public School just down the street. The park across from her house gave her countless hours of fun with family and friends.

Brenda took great pride in her time as a Bandette where she formed lasting friendships. She always looked forward to gatherings with her fellow Bandettes for dinner. After graduating from Sir James Dunn C& VS, she attended Sault College where she humorously claimed to earn a “Masters in Euchre.”

Throughout her career, Brenda worked at various places including Trunk Road Esso, Country Style on Trunk Rd., Reyco Auto Parts, RMH Call Centre, and Benson Auto Parts where she managed for 17 years. Her commitment to both staff and customers was exceptional. A regular customer at Country Style was a young man named Barry who later became her husband when they married on June 19,1993; together they shared nearly 33 wonderful years.

Their days were filled with trips to camp in Echo Bay or their trailer at Richard Lake in Sudbury along with spending quality time with family. While Brenda loved cooking at home, breakfast outings or trying new lunch spots were some of her favorite activities too. Thursdays meant flyer day when she’d look through them for the best bargains available. She adored all her pets which brought so much happiness into her life. Above all else, Brenda cherished her family and friends dearly. She had a warm smile for everyone and always offered support whenever it was needed; she truly cared for each person’s worries or troubles.

A Celebration of Life is planned for family and friends at the Echo Bay Elks Lodge (96 Church Street) on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 1:00 p. m. until 5:00 p. m.

If you wish to honor Brenda’s memory further, memorial donations can be made to Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH). Arrangements have been entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd., 705-945-7758). You can share your memories or express your condolences at www. northwoodfuneral. com
