With heavy hearts, we share the news of Sylvia Pedwysocki’s passing on February 16, 2026 (Family Day). She was born in Insinger, Saskatchewan on October 7, 1933 to her caring parents Frank and Mary Chubak. On June 13, 1953, she married Michael, her one true love. They celebrated their 40th anniversary surrounded by family and friends before Michael passed away. Together they raised four wonderful children. Sylvia leaves behind her children Mary Ann Vic, Michael (Sharon), Brenda Carchidi (Sal Sr.), and Danny (Diane). She is also survived by grandchildren Chris and Ashley Vic, Steven and Andrew (Darquise) Pedwysocki, Sal Jr. and Michael (Stacey) Carchidi as well as great-grandchildren Emilie, Hunter, Will, Gage, Isabella and Elliott. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Jean Seaman and family along with her brother Wilf Chubak.
Sylvia always dreamed of being a nurse and achieved that goal. For 36 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital she enjoyed a rewarding career caring for patients while always spoiling them a bit too. Our family made cherished memories camping and fishing on weekends. Saturday nights were often spent enjoying drive-in movies together. Mom loved tending to her garden and took pride in growing fresh vegetables. She found joy in cooking for family and friends while experimenting with recipes from her treasured collection of cookbooks.
Being an active member of the Church of the Holy Protection brought her great happiness as well; she spent countless hours with friends organizing bingos, teas, and dinners to support the church community. After retiring from St. Joseph’s Hospital, she relished swimming with new friends and enjoyed bus tours along with monthly lunches with fellow retired nurses-most importantly though was the time she spent with family whom she adored.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Michael Pedwysocki; parents Frank and Mary Chubak; father-in-law Daniel; mother-in-law Martha Pedwysocki; sister-in-law Mary Ann Chubak; brother-in-law John Seaman; brother Walter Kostantin; sister Anne Kostantin; their son Bruce; along with her dear friend Bill Hawryluk.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the staff on the 5th Floor at Lakehead Manor for their exceptional care for Mom-they truly created a loving home environment that she appreciated deeply. Mom always had a smile ready for everyone who crossed her path along with kind words to share.
Funeral services for Sylvia Pedwysocki will take place at 2:00 p. m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026 in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel located at 21 N. Court Street in Thunder Bay, ON. A reception will follow afterward. In lieu of flowers donations can be made if desired to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Muscular Dystrophy Canada or any charity you prefer.
