Robert “Bob” Van Hooren
February 4, 1965 – January 8, 2026
Bob set down his last beer on January 8, 2026, full of life right to the end.
Bob was a guy with a great sense of humour, perfect timing for jokes, and a personality that lit up every room he walked into. He was always entertaining, quick with a quip, and never short on opinions. Bob had a knack for stirring up a bit of trouble wherever he went-sometimes by accident and sometimes on purpose-and yes, that talent even extended to his caregivers. He kept them guessing, made them laugh, and occasionally tested their patience… usually all at once.
His biggest passion was golf; he loved it deeply and could talk about it endlessly, no matter how the last round actually turned out. He was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens, enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, and truly believed that most problems in life could be solved over good company and a cold beer. Bob always had the best time-and made sure everyone around him did too.
Bob’s greatest love was his wife Diana (née Lombardi), who was his rock and constant support-someone who loved him unconditionally and kept him grounded. He was also a devoted father to his son Jacob, whom he adored beyond words and shared an incredible bond with. Bob also held close the memory of his twins, Daniel and Andrea, who passed away in 2001.
He is survived by his sisters Mary Ann Montagano and Patti Martin (Craig), who cherished him throughout their lives filled with love laughter and stories. Also left behind are sister-in-law Rita Nolan (Lombardi), who never hesitated to give him “what for,” along with brother-in-law David Lombardi. Bob proudly held the title of best son-in-law to Yolanda and Domenic Lombardi, whom he truly adored.
Bob was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews: Lauren Vilandre (Chris) and their children Harper and Gabriel; Michael Montagano (Erika) with their kids Luca and Leighton; Kyle Martin; Kelsea Martin (Alex Keys); Tamara Burke (Cameron); Tabitha Nolan; and Domenic “Little “D” Lombardi-many of whom have at least one Uncle Bob story they can share!
He was predeceased by his parents Andre Van Hooren (2013) and Diane Van Hooren (2024), who raised Bob along with his sisters in a home filled with love laughter memories.
Bob’s best friend was his cousin Dan Plante; together they shared countless laughs long chats many well-deserved “pops.” Their friendship thrived on loyalty humour-and so many memories already legendary are bound to get better louder over time.
Bob also leaves behind Jax and Georgia-his beloved dogs-who know something’s off but can’t quite grasp why he hasn’t come home yet or why the treats are late.
Bob lived life fully laughed loudly loved fiercely-and left behind countless stories. The world feels quieter less sarcastic undeniably less fun without him-but those who knew him will keep his spirit alive while watching games telling stories raising beers in his honour.
Our family sends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Freeman for understanding Bob’s candid nature never shying away from honesty-as well as Dr. Elfiki for appreciating Bob’s straightforwardness engaging thoughtfully through all questions regarding decisions made along the way. Special thanks go out to Dr. Meloche nursing staff at WRH Met Campus chemotherapy suite whose dedication care meant everything more than we can express-a big shoutout goes to Shelley Bob’s home nurse who quickly realized she’d met her match once gloves came off handling every moment gracefully professionally patiently.
Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (Banwell Chapel), 11677 Tecumseh Rd E (519-253-7235) on Monday January 12, 2026 from 2 to 5pm and 7 to 9pm. Cremation will follow
