Robert “Bob” Van Hooren
February 4, 1965 – January 8, 2026
Bob put down his last beer on January 8, 2026, living life to the fullest until the very end.
Bob was a guy with a quick wit, great timing for jokes, and a personality that lit up any room he walked into. He had an endless supply of entertainment, always ready with a quip and never short on opinions. Bob had a knack for stirring things up wherever he went-sometimes without even trying, but often on purpose-and yes, that included his caregivers. He kept them laughing and occasionally tested their patience… usually all at once.
His biggest love was golf-a sport he cherished deeply and talked about endlessly, no matter how his last game went. A loyal supporter of the Montreal Canadiens, he enjoyed watching all kinds of sports and firmly believed that most of life’s challenges could be eased with good friends and a cold beer. Bob knew how to have a blast-and made sure everyone else did too.
The love of his life was his wife Diana (née Lombardi), who was his rock and constant support. She loved him unconditionally and helped keep him grounded. He was also a devoted father to his son Jacob, whom he adored deeply and shared a unique bond with. Bob always held close the memory of his twins, Daniel and Andrea, who passed away in 2001.
He is survived by his sisters Mary Ann Montagano and Patti Martin (Craig), who cherished him and created countless happy memories together. He also leaves behind sister-in-law Rita Nolan (Lombardi), who never hesitated to give him “what for,” along with brother-in-law David Lombardi. Bob proudly claimed the title of best son-in-law to Yolanda and Domenic Lombardi, whom he loved dearly.
Bob was a caring uncle to many nieces and nephews: Lauren Vilandre (Chris) along with their kids Harper and Gabriel; Michael Montagano (Erika) along with their children Luca and Leighton; Kyle Martin; Kelsea Martin (Alex Keys); Tamara Burke (Cameron); Tabitha Nolan; and Domenic “Little “D” Lombardi-all of whom have at least one Uncle Bob story to share!
He was predeceased by his parents Andre Van Hooren (2013) and Diane Van Hooren (2024), who raised Bob alongside his sisters in an environment filled with love, laughter, and wonderful memories.
Bob’s best buddy was cousin Dan Plante; they shared countless laughs, long talks, and many well-deserved drinks together. Their friendship thrived on loyalty and humor-with stories already legendary expected to get even more entertaining over time.
Bob also left behind his two beloved dogs Jax and Georgia-they sense something is off but can’t quite grasp why he hasn’t returned home or why their treats are late.
Bob truly lived life to the fullest-he laughed heartily, loved passionately, leaving behind an abundance of stories. The world feels quieter now without him-less sarcastic-and undeniably less fun-but those who cared for him will keep that spirit alive while watching games together or sharing stories over beers in honor of him.
Our family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Freeman for understanding Bob’s straightforwardness as well as recognizing that he didn’t hold back on words-meeting him with incredible patienceand compassion-and Dr. Elfiki for quickly appreciating Bob’s candid nature while thoughtfully addressing all his questions about every decision made during treatment. We’re also grateful to Dr. Meloche plus the chemotherapy team along with nursing staff on 4 North at WRH Met Campus whose unwavering dedication meant more than we can express in words. A very special thank you goes out to Shelley-the home nurse-who realized she’d found her match once they got into it-and handled everything like a pro while remaining patient throughout each moment.
Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (Banwell Chapel), 11677 Tecumseh Rd E (519-253-7235) on Monday January 12, 2026 from 2 to 5pm then again from 7 to 9pm followed by cremation
If you wish instead of sending flowers donations may be made toward “In Honour of the Ones We Love”.
