Mirella Spadotto (née Famiglio) peacefully left us on January 3, 2026 at the age of 94, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 23, 1931 to Luigi and Rosina in Azzano Decimo, Italy, Mirella spent her early years in Italy with her three sisters, many friends, and neighbours-eventually falling in love with the boy next door, Giuseppe. Their romance blossomed into a marriage, after which they created a life together in Windsor, Ontario where they raised their family.
Mirella was well-known for her quick wit and sense of humour. She was a caring mother and a doting Nonna, always happy to spend time with family and offer thoughtful advice. Her garden was her pride and joy; she grew vegetables that became delicious pastas and risottos for her loved ones. Proud of her Italian roots, she was a member of the Italian Women’s Club G. Caboto for 68 years. She had a wonderful talent for making others feel special-whether it was by showing them her hidden raspberry bush or sharing old photographs filled with stories from her life in Italy and Canada.
Family meant everything to Mirella. She adored her children, Eros (Lisa) and Denise (Paul Greco), and was the cherished Nonna of Nicole, David, and Gioia. The daily phone calls and weekly visits with her children and grandchildren were truly precious to her. She also leaves behind nephews Ivo (Shirley) and Lou (Charlene)-whom she regarded as additional children-as well as her sister Guerrina, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, sisters Cila and Iole, and husband Giuseppe.
Mirella devoted herself to family, friends, and faith throughout her life. She showed kindness, grace, and strength every day. Though she has joined God and Giuseppe now, the stories she shared along with the recipes passed down will keep her spirit alive through all the love shared during her beautiful life. We will miss her dearly.
