Maria D’Agostino (née: Franceschelli)
Maria D’Agostino, 75, of Windsor, ON, passed away peacefully on November 24th, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Maria was born in Miranda (Isernia) on February 28th, 1950. In August 1963, she and her family (Franceschelli and Casciano) immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island. They settled in the rapidly growing Steel Valley of Youngstown, OH, where Maria earned her degree in Education and Modern Languages from Youngstown State University in 1973.
Maria married Antonio (Tony) D’Agostino on May 26th, 1973. They moved to Windsor, ON that same year and were happily married for 45 years until Tony’s passing in 2018.
Maria was an incredible woman who impacted many lives. Her friends remember her for her love of cooking; those lucky enough to share a meal with her knew she excelled at Mirandese and Molise cuisine. The smells wafting from her kitchen-like sagne e fagioli, polpette cacio e uova, la panonta and la pastiera-created a warm atmosphere that brought Maria immense happiness as she cooked for her family with ease.
Deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, Maria prayed regularly to Sant’Antonio da Padova and made generous donations to the children’s orphanage managed by Istituto Antoniano dei Rogazionisti.
An avid gardener as well, Maria came from a long line of farmers in Miranda. Her garden thrived with seasonal produce and fresh herbs often spilled over the edges of the concrete at her home. As a nurturing homemaker, she filled her house with warmth and care.
Among many achievements in life, one stands out: Maria was a cancer survivor for 14 years. She faced medical challenges with strength and relied on her faith and family during tough times to guide her through.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mario and Amalia Franceschelli (Youngstown, OH) as well as her husband Antonio (Tony) D’Agostino (Windsor, ON). She is survived by Eliseo Franceschelli of Jensen Beach, FL (formerly Youngstown); Salvatore (Sonny) D’Agostino (Regan) of Elmira; Amelia (Amy) Germanese of Windsor (Micheal); Mario D’Agostino (Janine) of Fort Lauderdale; sister-in-law Robert and Sonia D’Agostino of Windsor; Zia to Salina and Maia of Windsor; doggy-grandmum to Dali, Blue, and Lulu; and most importantly Nonna to Lola, Roman, Zayne , and Tony Moe.
