Kathy Galay (nee Syroid) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at the age of 89. She was born on January 11, 1936 in Espanola, Ontario to Harry (1999) and Jennie (1999) Syroid. Kathy has been reunited with her dear husband, Dennis Bohdan (2019), with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. She was the sister of the late Marie (2020) and is survived by her sister Jeannette (Jeana) Syroid. She will be fondly remembered by her aunt Cleo Sokoloski and many cousins from Saint Catherine’s, Espanola, Toronto, Montreal, Amherstburg and Ukraine.

Kathy was a loving Chocha, Aunt, and Nina to many children of her friends. Stevan, Greg, Debbie, and Markus were lucky to have her as their godmother.

Kathy and Dennis had a passion for travel; they explored numerous destinations in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. One trip that stood out for them was their visit to their father’s homeland in Ukraine.

She actively participated in various organizations such as MYHO, OYK, Ukrainian National Federation, W. E. S. U. N., Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church. Kathy enjoyed selling pierogi at events like Salvation Army Christmas dinners and Easter telethons. She also took part in the Trident Investment Club and Southwood Lakes Social Club. To know Kathy was to appreciate her; she was always a good listener who remained loyal to all her friends from childhood through today. Her strong will and faith were gifts that everyone cherished. In honor of Kathy’s memory, donations can be made to Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church or any charity of your choice. Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – South Chapel (3048 Dougall Ave., 519-253-7236) on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM & again from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM with Panahyda (prayers) at 8:30 PM. The visitation will continue at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church (601 Lake Trail Dr., Windsor) on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 AM followed by burial at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
