We are heartbroken to share that Jonathon “Jon” Charles Gray from Durham passed away on September 7, 2025, at the Aberdeen Hospital.

Jon started his career as a millwright, beginning at Michelin Tire when he was just 16 years old with Steel Pro. A few years later, he became a full-time employee at Michelin. He had a knack for all things mechanical and could fix or create anything from scratch. He truly was a jack of all trades.

With his wonderful sense of humor, Jon could always make people laugh. His infectious smile and warm brown eyes could charm anyone instantly. He adored his wife Amie, who was not only his partner for 24 years but also his closest friend. Whether it was grabbing coffee or traveling together, they loved spending time with each other. Jon always prioritized his family above everything else, showering them with affection and gifts alike. From a young age, he had a fondness for babies and children. He loved his son and daughter deeply and taught them invaluable life skills-from math homework to driving stick shifts or dirt bikes, changing tires to marksmanship; he imparted so much knowledge to them. With an incredible instinct for character assessment, Jon was highly intelligent and wise-this is an understatement! He worked hard and believed that if you took on a task, you should do it right the first time; otherwise, don’t bother at all. After learning something new once, he’d often outperform the person who taught him. Friends would call him for guidance on fixing things because everyone knew he truly understood what he was talking about.

Jon loved being outdoors and enjoyed activities like hunting, snowmobiling, and ATV riding. From childhood onward, he had an affinity for trucks with big tires. A gun collector with sharp shooting skills himself-he even repaired some firearms! Inside him lived the heart of a boy who cherished RC trucks and boats along with anything antique that sparked joy in him. He had a soft spot for animals too-especially his dog Ceaser and cat Sproket-and they returned that love wholeheartedly. Jon also took pride in his tractors and machinery; over time he built numerous trailers that kept getting larger since there was nothing he couldn’t accomplish.
Jon leaves behind an enormous void in many hearts that will never be filled; we hold onto our memories closely to help mend our broken hearts.

He is survived by his parents Derek and Christine Gray from Westville; wife Amie (Snell) from Durham; son Reilly Gray (Celine Mason) from New Glasgow; daughter Keely Gray (Zane Jordan) from Timberlea; sister Jayne (Anthony) Fraser from Westville; niece Jade Fraser; half-sisters Julie Gray from England and Allison (Nick) Hill from Scotland; half-brother Trevor Knight from Springdale, NFLD; several aunts, uncles, cousins as well as close family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother David Gray along with both maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents.

Visitation will take place at Eagles Funeral Home on Thursday, September 11th from 3-5pm and again from 7-9pm. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday September 12th at 11am in the chapel of Eagles Funeral Home.
