John Russ peacefully passed away at the age of 71 with his family around him. He was a loving husband to Debra for 44 years and a proud father to Brad and Kevin. He shared a special bond with his brother Lorne, who was also his closest friend. John will be missed dearly by his many brothers and sisters-in-law, including Pat and Bill Champagne, Pauline and Skip Bump, Mary-Jane Masse, Ronnie Janisse, and Laurette Janisse (the late Paul). He is now reunited with his parents, John and Rose. John leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
For many years, John worked as a correctional officer and took great pride in what he did. He approached everything in life with kindness, compassion, and warmth. Everyone found it easy to talk to him because he was just that friendly. In addition to his career, John had a passion for running; he was known as an enthusiastic track athlete.
Although John is no longer with us, the love he had for his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched will live on.
Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – Central Chapel (1700 Tecumseh Rd E – 519-253-7234) on Thursday September 18th 2025 from 2pm-5pm and again from 7pm-9pm. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Transition to Betterness.
