With heavy hearts, the family of Paul Donald Mc Hugh shares the news of his passing on November 14, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was a devoted husband to Joan (nee. Lizotte) Mc Hugh and was born in Saint John, NB on July 24, 1937, to the late Maurice and Margaret (nee. Leary) Mc Hugh.

Paul leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years Joan Mc Hugh; children James “Donald” (Gaby) Mc Hugh and Cathy (Gregory) Barry; son-in-law Bob Whynot; grandchildren: Tiffany (Brad), Garrett (Meghan), Landon (Sarah), Renata, and Santiago; great-grandchildren: Leland, Rowen, and Isla; brother Blair Mc Hugh; sisters Marie Mabey and Margaret (Bobby) Burke; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter Wendy Whynot; brothers Gerald and John Mc Hugh; nephew Boomer Mc Hugh; and sister-in-law Paula Mc Hugh.

For 37 years, Paul proudly served as a Supply Tech in the Canadian Armed Forces. His work took him all over Canada where he became part of various legions. A loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years, his last branch was Branch 58. In retirement, Paul and Joan spent their winters in Florida enjoying three decades filled with sunshine, warm weather, and good friends. They often gathered at the VFW with both Canadian and American Veterans sharing many stories together.

A big sports fan and player himself, Paul loved taking part in various sports. In his youth, he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball which eventually led him to become a hockey referee as well as a baseball umpire. Hockey and baseball were his top choices for both playing and watching. Regardless of any challenges they faced, he remained a dedicated fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The arrangements are being handled by Fundy Funeral Home located at 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB E2J 2G3; (506) 646-2424. Visitation for Paul will take place on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 11:40 AM. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute will start at 11:45 AM followed by a Celebration of Life at noon in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Afterward, the family invites friends to join them for refreshments and remembrance in the Fundy Funeral Home Reception Centre. Donations can be made in Paul’s memory to any charity you choose.
