Michael “Mike” David Perkins passed away peacefully at his home on Kashagawigamog Lake in Minden, Ontario, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Colleen Perkins (nee Flynn). Proud father to Candice Perkins and Mike Perkins Jr. (Samantha). Adoring Papa to Cole Perkins. He was predeceased by his parents Harley and Shirley Perkins. Mike was the brother of Sandy Kennedy (Ron), Gary Perkins, and Brian Perkins. He was also the son-in-law of Robert Flynn and the late Margaret Flynn. As a brother-in-law, he is remembered by Danny Flynn, the late Bobby Flynn (survived by Shirley), and Tammy Bramhall (Bryan). Many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends will miss him greatly.

His children Mike Jr. and Candice shared some thoughts about their dad:

Our dad was born in Oakville, Ontario in 1960. In his early years, he moved to Burlington where he attended Lord Elgin High School. It was there that he met our mom, Colleen-the love of his life. They married soon after and started a wonderful journey together.

Dad joined the International Union of Operating Engineers (Local 793) in 1989, working for Lakeshore Sand Company in Hamilton. Over his career spanning more than 35 years, he showed dedication as a professional employee taking on various specialized roles at the plant-from maintenance to operations-and eventually became the Operating Manager later on. Family meant everything to Dad; he always made time for everyone he loved. He dedicated many hours coaching Mike Jr. in hockey and baseball while supporting Candice at her soccer games and gymnastics events. Those early morning practices, weeknight games, and tournaments across the province became cherished moments for our family.

Music held a special place in Dad’s heart too. From our first family home’s basement sound system in Burlington to the dock at Haliburton, we often heard Supertramp, Genesis, Pink Floyd, along with many other artists blasting from his speakers. The cottage life brought him joy like nothing else did-our annual trips to Shebeshekong (“Shebe”) Resort in Parry Sound were highlights filled with sunshine alongside friends and family that created lasting memories together over those beautiful summers. Eventually settling down in Minden Hills fulfilled their dream of lake living while forming wonderful friendships along the way. Dad loved being out on the water-whether wakeboarding or water skiing with us or enjoying a sunset cruise down the shoreline; steering that boat truly made him happy! When not on the lake you could usually find him relaxing on a beach too-he enjoyed many trips with family and friends to sunny spots like the Bahamas, Mexico, or Aruba! In addition to all this fun; Dad had real skills in cooking-known for grilling up perfect steaks-he loved gathering everyone around for barbecues or big meals.

Dad eventually embraced being “Papa” as well; sharing an incredible bond with grandson Cole throughout their time together-from exploring nearby trails at the cottage to boating adventures swimming at sandbars while fishing or playing games-their shared moments will always be part of our lives.

To us kids? Our dad was truly our hero-a man who won hearts wherever he went! His radiant energy left an impact on so many lives around him-we’ll forever remember how his smile lit up every room! Dad-you will be deeply missed but never forgotten-we love you xoxo

The Perkins family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude towards Haliburton County Paramed Staff along with Nurses.

Following Mike’s wishes; cremation has taken place-with a Celebration of Life planned for June 25th 2026 from 2 pm – 6 pm at Bonnie View Inn located on Kashagawigamog Lake as detailed below:

Bonnie View Inn
2713 Kashagawigamog Lake Rd.
