Joseph Russell Toy 1956-2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph Russell Toy on October 31, 2025, at the age of 69. Joe was loved by everyone who knew him, and his greatest joy came from being with his family. He was one of five siblings born to William and Rose Mary (Vowles) Toy (both deceased) in London, Ontario. Left to mourn are his three beloved daughters: Samantha (Ben) Walker from Fredericton, Jessica (Jason) Carswell, and Abigail (Shane) Carswell from Sturgeon Falls. He was a cherished Grampsy to Alexis and Owen Carswell, Annabella Carswell, and Adeline Walker who will miss him deeply.
Joe is survived by his loving brothers Fred (Jan) Toy and Mike (Maureen) Toy, along with his sister Kathy (Phil) White. He was predeceased by his sister Sandra Toy. Known as UJ to his nephews and great-nieces and nephews, he held a special spot in their lives. Also mourning Joe are many aunts, uncles, cousins, and co-workers from Viking Pump Company where he dedicated 33 years of service.
The mother of his three children and dear friend Tracy (Wood/Toy) Tonkin (Eric) also grieves his loss.
While family meant everything to him, Joe also enjoyed golf, card games, shopping trips, Billy Joel music, Burton Cummings songs, bonfires at the cottage, Franks Red Hot Sauce (which he put on just about everything), Delaware Speedway events, and Christmas celebrations. He took pride in the outdoor decorations he set up every year alongside his three little helpers.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the outstanding care he received at West Nipissing General Hospital and Au Chateau Retirement Home.
Visitation will be held at Mc Farlane & Roberts Funeral Home located at 2240 Wharncliffe Rd. S., Lambeth, Ontario on Friday November 7th from 7-9 pm and Saturday November 8th from 10-12 with a celebration of life taking place at St. John the Divine Parish at 390 Base Line Rd W., London starting at 1 pm. The family invites everyone present to join them for lunch back at the funeral home at 3 pm. In line with Joe’s wishes, pizza and chicken wings will be served along with his favorite date square dessert and other sweet treats.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
