With a heavy heart, we share the news of Lawrence Mochizuki’s passing at the age of 86, in the early hours of December 15, 2025, surrounded by his daughters.

Lawrence was born on October 5, 1939, in Ucluelet, BC, to Kiutaro and Tome. His formative years were marked by the struggles he faced during the internment camp at Tashme, BC. He later grew up in Thunder Bay and graduated from Lakehead University in 1968 with an Engineering Technology Award. In August 1969, he married his dear Janet and moved to Sudbury to kick off a long career as a supervisor at INCO. Together they created a family-focused life until Janet’s passing in 2013.

They raised their daughters, Robin and Kyra, on Drummond Ave. The friendships made with neighbors there were significant throughout Lawrence’s life right up until his last days. His daughters are truly thankful for the ongoing support given to him and the kindness shown to their family.

Lawrence was always busy with projects-building, fixing things up, gardening or working outside. In the 1980s, he dedicated many hours coaching ringette for his daughters while forming lasting bonds with fellow parents. He enjoyed staying active through curling and bowling but felt most at home when golfing or fishing. An enthusiastic fisherman, he eagerly awaited each winter’s end so pickerel season could return and fill his freezer once more.

He is predeceased by his wife Janet; brothers Ed (Doreen) and Harry (Wendy); as well as siblings Noboru and Hisae in Japan. He will be fondly missed by his daughters Robin and Kyra along with nieces Corrine and Kim.

The family expresses sincere gratitude to Dr. Singh and the caring PSWs at HSN for their gentle care that brought comfort to Lawrence during his final days.

A Celebration of Lawrence’s Life is set for Saturday, May 3rd at 1:00 p. m. at Timberwolf Golf Club-the place where he spent so much time enjoying what he loved most. Family and friends are invited to join us; anyone who wants to share memories or words in tribute is welcome.
