We are heartbroken to share the unexpected loss of Michael “Mickey” Ball on Tuesday, February 17th at the age of 70.

Mickey was a loving husband to Pam for 43 years. He took great pride in being a father to Lauren and Devon and a grandpa to Charlotte, Evelyn, Juliet, and Elliott.

With nearly 50 years in the fuel industry, Mickey built many friendships throughout Ontario. He was proud to have played on the Men’s Hockey Team at the University of Pennsylvania after being recruited from his hometown of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. His love for hockey continued with teams like Oshawa Generals, Dundas Merchants, and Burlington Old Timers. Whenever he could, he hit the ice or coached his daughter Devon over many seasons. He was always there cheering for his daughters during their games and competitions-finding the best spots behind the net, next to the balance beam, or along the sidelines.

Mickey approached life with energy, humor, and real affection for others. He loved chatting and often shared his favorite stories again and again. His family meant everything to him; you could feel his warmth just by looking at his big smile. If someone was having a rough day, talking with Mickey would remind them about what really mattered.

A Celebration of Life gathering will take place on Saturday, March 14th at 5:30 pm at Wave Twin Rinks (1179 Northside Rd, Burlington, ON).

The family kindly requests that instead of flowers, those who wish to honor Mickey’s memory can donate to the Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund. This will help remove financial obstacles so more young people can play hockey-the sport he cherished (please include Mickey in the comment of donation).
