We are heartbroken to share the unexpected loss of Michael “Mickey” Ball, who passed away on Tuesday, February 17th at the age of 70.

Mickey was a loving husband to Pam for 43 wonderful years. He took great pride in being a father to Lauren and Devon and was an adoring Grandpa to Charlotte, Evelyn, Juliet and Elliott.

With nearly 50 years in the fuel industry, Mickey built many friendships across Ontario. He played for the Men’s Hockey Team at the University of Pennsylvania after being scouted from his hometown of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. His love for hockey continued with teams like the Oshawa Generals, Dundas Merchants, and Burlington Old Timers. He made it a point to hit the ice whenever possible and dedicated many years coaching his daughter Devon. Whether behind the net or along the sidelines, he always supported his daughters at their games and events.

Mickey approached life with enthusiasm, humor, and a real affection for people. He enjoyed chatting with others and sharing his favorite stories repeatedly. His family meant everything to him, and you could see his warmth in his unforgettable smile. If someone felt down, just talking to Mickey would help them remember what truly mattered.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14th at 5:30 pm at Wave Twin Rinks (1179 Northside Rd, Burlington, ON).

The family requests that instead of flowers, those wishing to honor Mickey’s memory may contribute to the Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund. This way you can help remove financial barriers so that more young individuals can enjoy playing hockey – a sport he loved deeply (please mention Mickey in your donation comments).
