With heavy hearts, we come together to remember Janet Lynne Stammers (née Fulkerson). Born in Fort William, Ontario on October 4, 1946, Janet left us for the stars at her family home on May 7, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her sons Ryan (Sean) and David (Ashley), brother Farrell (Joanne), nieces Jamie and Riley, grandchildren Norah and Cole, along with extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Marion and Murray, as well as her cherished husband, John.

Growing up with braided pigtails and a smile on her face, Janet faced life’s challenges head-on. As an adult, she approached difficult times with a thoughtful calmness. She studied at Western and Queens before beginning her career as a high-school math teacher at Selkirk C. V. I. back home in Thunder Bay. In her early teaching days in Toronto, she met John. Spending most of her career in the math department at Harbord Collegiate Institute in Toronto, Janet inspired countless students with her passion for learning. During a long retirement, she enjoyed working in her garden, playing bridge, attending lectures, watching curling matches, and traveling with her sons.

Her greatest joy came from being a mother to Ryan and David; she wanted nothing more than to spend quality time with them. The summers were filled with road trips across North America where she and John took their boys camping-successfully nurturing their love for adventure and exploration. As Ryan settled in Ottawa and David moved to Edmonton over the years, Janet’s pride in their accomplishments only grew stronger.

An enthusiastic bridge player who loved learning new things-and indulging in ice cream just a little too often-Janet will be remembered for her quiet strength and bravery throughout life’s journey.
