Surrounded by his loving family Edward (Ed) passed away at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital on June 2, 2025 at the age of 81. Ed was born on May 27, 1944 in Orillia Ontario. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol, of 53 years, his cherished children David Lloyd (Carla Anderson), Michael (Carolina) Lloyd, Kimberley (Randy) Higgins, Christopher Lloyd (Melissa Findlay), and his nephew Ryan Benson. He is the proud and adoring Grandfather of Ashleigh and Ethan Higgins and Arantxa (Ari) and Nathan Lloyd.

Ed came from a large family and was the 5th of 14 children. He is predeceased by his mother, Dodie, his Father, Dorsey, his oldest brother, Hugh, and his sister, Patsy. Ed will be remembered by his many brothers, sisters and their families and as the special brother in law of Lynda Benson.

Ed attended Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo Ontario and was a member of the Laurier Golden Hawks Football team. Following University Ed had a very successful career with Ontario Hydro (Ontario Power Generation). He was the Director of Corporate Real Estate prior to his retirement in year 2000. Ed’s interest in his occupation continued personally and he enjoyed researching, exploring, and investing in real estate across Ontario.

He loved to play golf but hockey was his passion. He was able to play with his sons as young adults which he always commented was his absolute favourite thing to do. Ed had a presence like no other. He was gregarious, playful, and generous. He loved to be surrounded by people, noise, activity, and fun. But most of all he was happiest sitting at the head of the table, surrounded by family and friends, telling stories, laughing and making memories.

Ed will be sadly missed by his many friends from Orillia, Barrie, and those from the community of Unionville where he raised his children for over 30 years. He was larger than life and will always be remembered that way.

We are forever grateful to Dr. David C Collins, Sheila Collins, and Maria Hiesl for their exceptional care. A special thank you to Dr. N. Arnand (Orillia) and Dr. J Kang ( Barrie). Also a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the IMRU at OSMH for their compassionate care during his final days.

A service will be held on Friday June 6th at Mundell Funeral Home, Orillia at 1:00pm. A drop-in celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 20th from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Unionville Arms – 189 Main Street, Unionville, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Easter Seals Ontario (www.easterseals.org) providing services for children and youth with physical disabilities or Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
