June 14, 1959 – February 8, 2026
A man who was loved by countless people, Bruce James Carruthers, son of David and Mildred Carruthers, passed away on the afternoon of February 8, 2026, after a short illness.
A dedicated husband to Margaret for nearly 39 years. He was the sibling to Beth (Glenn) Parsons and David (Carol) Carruthers, as well as brother-in-law to Gord (Stephanie) Doughty, Ruth Stephen (Dave Druyff), the late David Stephen, and the late Paul Doughty (late Michelle). He took pride in being an uncle to Jessi, Lara, Bekah, Heather, Jay and Steven and was a godfather to Liam.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Bruce lived in various parts of Canada but truly found his home in Northern Ontario. Both he and Margaret cherished their summer camping trips in their RV at Pancake Bay and The Chutes.
Bruce had a “larger than life” personality. Outgoing and always up for a good joke, he enjoyed jumping into projects alongside his brother-in-law Gord. Fiercely loyal, Bruce would go above and beyond for his family and friends.
Mourning his loss is a broad circle of lifelong friends and family members including his cousins Kevin (Sue) Mc Harg-who was like a brother-and cousin Helen (Brian) Riley.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to colleagues and friends at Christie’s RV for their support during these last few weeks. We also appreciate the staff, nurses and doctors at Sault Area Hospital and the Group Health Centre. Special thanks to Dr. Apostle. Bruce will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Cremation will take place with no services planned.
If you’d like to honor Bruce’s memory with memorial donations, please consider giving to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society or the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Fund. Donations can be made by cheque or online.
