It is with great sadness that we share the news of Anastasios Daskalopoulos’s passing, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, who left us on October 26, 2024. He was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew him, remembered for his remarkable work ethic, steadfast courage, and immense love for his family.
Born on March 17, 1938 in Arnissa, Pellas, Greece, Anastasios (known as “Tom” and Taso) devoted himself to providing for his loved ones. A self-made man, he worked hard every day to build a better future for his family and inspired those around him with his commitment to hard work. With many skills under his belt, he held various jobs and was a true handyman who was always willing to help others and share what he knew.
With an eye on a brighter future, Anastasios persuaded his wife to move to Germany for work which eventually led them to Canada. Together with their baby in tow, Anastasios and Efthimia thought Canada might not be their final destination but decided to take a “short” visit to Toronto to see some relatives-and as they say, the rest is history.
Anastasios had an incredible talent for lighting up any room with his contagious smile and laughter. Naturally witty with a fantastic sense of humor; he loved making people laugh and often turned ordinary moments into special memories especially with his grandkids. His passion for traditional Greek dancing brought joy at family gatherings where he could frequently be seen showcasing his moves with glee-even when mobility became challenging later in life.
A dedicated father and grandfather, Anastasios treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren sharing wisdom, love, and laughter. His support never wavered; he always put family first while encouraging them to chase their dreams. He took immense pride in watching his children grow into the amazing adults they are today. Even though he sometimes mixed up the grandkids’ names here and there-there was no doubt about how much joy each one brought him.
Throughout his life journey, Anastasios faced obstacles head-on with strength and resolve. He stood by his decisions firmly advocating fiercely for what mattered most-his beliefs and those he loved right up until the end. His kindness reached far beyond just family; many friends found comfort in knowing they could count on him whenever they needed help.
Anastasios leaves behind a legacy filled with love laughter resilience. He is survived by his devoted wife Efthimia of 60 years along with children Chris, Jim (Mary), Maria (Pat), Rina (Mike) as well as grandchildren Julianna, Alexander, Abby, Anastasia, Mia Madelyn Marianneand Mark.
Our family wishes to express gratitude towards Father Fanourios Pappas for all prayers offered during this time for Anastasios.
