What’s Open and Closed on Canada Day in Ontario

Canada Day is celebrated every year on July 1, with folks all over Ontario and the country joining in the festivities in various ways.

This year, the holiday lands on a Tuesday.

On this day, people will come together across the nation to celebrate Canada’s 158th birthday, with many towns and cities organizing events for everyone. While residents throughout Ontario can look forward to fireworks, live music, food, and more, several places that are usually open will be closed.

Here’s a list of what’s open and closed in southern Ontario towns and cities on Canada Day this upcoming Tuesday, July 1:

 

Mississauga

This Tuesday, Erin Mills Town Centre, Heartland Town Centre, Dixie Outlet Mall, Sherwood Village (also called Sheridan Mall/Sheridan Centre), and Meadowvale Town Centre will be closed. Banks, libraries, community centres, and non-emergency government offices (at all levels) will also be shut down. Additionally, all LCBO locations and most Beer Store locations will not be open except for those at 2458 Dundas St. W., 5800 Mc Laughlin Rd., and 1550 Dundas St. E.

No waste collection is scheduled for July 1 (it will happen one day later), and Peel Community Recycling Centres will remain closed.

On the bright side, residents can head to Square One Shopping Centre (along with Walmart Supercentre, Whole Foods, and The Food District), Rabba grocery stores, T& T Supermarket, most Shoppers Drug Mart outlets that are typically open on Tuesdays along with most restaurants open on that day. Celebration Square and splash pads will also welcome visitors.

If you’re commuting by bus service Mi Way will follow its regular Sunday schedule but some routes may not operate due to low demand. GO Transit will run according to a Saturday schedule.

For Trans Help users: if you want transportation on Tuesday July 1 or Wednesday July 2 you need to call 905-791-1015 to book by 7 p. m. on Monday June 30. On July 1 Trans Help service hours are from 6 a. m. until 1 a. m., while their office remains closed.

The downtown area of Mississauga-especially Celebration Square and the Living Arts Centre-will be buzzing with activity throughout Canada Day celebrations which kick off at around 4 p. m., wrapping up at about 10:30 p. m., ending with an impressive fireworks display. Personal fireworks are allowed in Mississauga without a permit between dusk until 11 p. m. on Canada Day.

Brampton

On Canada Day itself Shoppers World as well as most major grocery stores City Hall banks libraries federal or provincial non-emergency services non-emergency Region of Peel services Brampton Animal Shelter Brampton On Stage Box Office Brampton Transit facilities (including Lost & Found) along with community recycling centres won’t be open either.

Non-emergency government services schools will also take a break for the holiday.

No garbage pickup occurs on Canada Day while Canada Post won’t deliver or pick up mail either. All LCBO locations along with most Beer Store shops (except those located at 198 Queen St. E.,180 Sandalwood Pkwy., and80 Peel Centre Dr.)will stay closed too.

The Peel Art Gallery Museum Archives (PAMA) is taking the day off as well!

This is one of just a few days during the year when Brampton hosts its own fireworks display! Only film industry members city officials can apply for permits allowing them use explosives based upon new regulations preventing personal usage within city limits!

If you’re looking for something that’s actually available then Bramptonians can check out Bramalea City Centre eatery spots cafes bars-but it’s wise first checking ahead-to ensure availability , most pharmacies(including many Shoppers Drug Mart branches) plus Rabba grocery shops. Parks trails remain accessible too alongside select recreation centers!

The Wet’n’Wild water park operates from 11 am until 7 pm that day!

Brampton Transit adopts holiday/Sunday timetable patterns effective Jul y1 st ; customer service desks close down entirely during this period. GO Transit follows suit running only weekends routines!

Halton – Oakville Burlington Milton Halton Hills

On July first numerous establishments shut their doors including banks town/city halls postal services majority Halton Region offices/amenities(all essential operations still function round-the-clock); community/seniors’centers indoor pools arenas libraries LCBO premises Mattamy National Cycling Center Milton Mall Burlington Center Mapleview Mall Oakville Place harbor administrative buildings cemetery offices fire administration units

No waste collection takes place; next-day pickups occur instead across Halton county

However locals might explore parks some outdoor recreational options select Shoppers Drug Marts( double-check availability first )multiple eateries generally serving patrons indoors/takeout/delivery options(inquire beforehand), certain smaller grocers like Rabba outlets found nearby, some Beer Stores(2025 Guelph Line &5051 New Street-in Burlington;290 Hays Boulevard-In Oakville)and select Wine Rack sites(Fortinos location situated at173 Lakeshore Road West/in Oakville). In Burlington Nelson Pool, Splash Park, Mountainside Pool Splash Park La Salle Wading Pool Splash Park welcome swimmers weather permitting. Oakville outdoor pools remain operational aside from Brookdale facility.

Residents may visit splash pads Conservation Halton parks Toronto Premium Outlets Starbucks Tim Hortons cafes too

Transit:

Oakville Transit provides holiday service hours starting from eight A. M. to eight P. M. Burlington Transit follows regular Sunday schedules; Milton Transit does not operate at all; GO Train rides continue under Saturday timetable restrictions Hamilton

Commuters should note many closures occurring including:CF Lime Ridge Eastgate Square public libraries municipal recreation centers arenas banking institutions LCBO outlets numerous Beer Stores(however seven specific stores remain functional-click Hamilton link above get details.)government agencies spanning three levels Hamilton Farmers Market major museums animal control Tropical Greenhouse Gage Park COVID vaccine clinics non-critical municipality offerings.
