Throughout the spring, summer, and fall months, Oakville’s waterfront spots like Lakeshore Road and Bronte Beach attract visitors from across Ontario. These well-kept parks feature lovely gardens and mature trees connected by picturesque trails along the water. They’re perfect for picnics, swimming in Lake Ontario, biking or hiking, and host many local events.

Best Trails to Explore in Oakville

You can easily discover Oakville on foot or bike since it’s very pedestrian- and bike-friendly with pathways connecting major attractions, beaches, and parks. Among the top trails are beautifully landscaped gardens-some right by the lake-local creeks such as Bronte Creek and Sixteen Mile Creek as well as routes on Heritage Trails.

 

 

The Heritage Trails in Oakville provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy both natural beauty and local history. There are five trails ranging from 6km to 13km in length. Along each of these five trails are information kiosks: Bronte Creek Trail (6.5km), Joshua’s Creek Trail (6km), Crosstown Trail (12km), Waterfront Trail (13km), and Sixteen Mile Creek Trail (8.5km). You can explore any of these trails by biking or walking. While hiking or cycling is a great way to experience them during your visit to Oakville, you can also enjoy horseback riding! You can schedule a scenic rural ride with Ride the Ranch offering one-hour packages for small groups of up to 12 people.

The waterfront areas along Lake Ontario in Oakville provide lovely spots for walks or bike rides where kids can play at parks or enjoy picnics during spring through fall. Bronte Beach is also an excellent starting point if you want to hike through Bronte Creek as it flows through parts of Oakville. The creek separates these two parks making them only about a 5-10 minute walk apart via Lakeshore Drive.
Oakville also boasts the charming Kerr Village area featuring picturesque waterfront locations like Waterworks Park , Tannery Park , and Lakeside Park.
