A police investigation into a stolen SUV in Oakville has resulted in the arrest of two people from Quebec and the recovery of multiple stolen vehicles in East York.
The Halton Regional Police Service reports that officers started their investigation after a Toyota Sequoia was taken from a residence in Oakville on the night of May 25, 2026. Authorities claim the suspects broke into the SUV by smashing a window and then used an electronic device to start it before driving away.
As they looked deeper into the case, police tracked the suspects to East York, where surveillance revealed additional stolen vehicles linked to this incident.
On May 27, officers apprehended 23-year-old Thyson Joseph from Quebec. He faces several charges, including motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property over $5,000, failing to comply with release conditions, and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
Authorities allege Joseph was already subject to two separate release orders related to previous auto theft cases when he was arrested. He is currently held pending a bail hearing in Milton.
A second suspect, 23-year-old Maika Lumumba from Quebec, was also arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
During their investigation, police executed a search warrant at an East York home and found an Acura sedan reported stolen from Montreal, an Acura SUV taken from Peel Region, stolen license plates, a vehicle reprogramming device, and other suspected stolen goods.
Investigators are still asking anyone who may have information about this case to contact Halton police at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
